Well this happened to me just the other day. I was having a
conversation with someone when the topic turned to a bit of trouble that she
had been going through. My first thought was that of all the opportunities her
situation presented, the ones that were right in front of her. Unfortunately,
she didn't see it that way. She was stressed and worried about the future. You
know it wasn't that long ago that I probably would have felt the exact same way
she did. It seemed that each time I was getting ahead I would run into a new
stumbling block and have to begin all over again. I couldn't see any way around
my challenges.

So, what exactly causes people to see things with such
drastic differences? There is really only one reason. People approach
situations differently based on their frame of mind. Some people see their circumstances
as challenges while others see them as opportunities.
People can have the same circumstances, the same advantages,
and the same abilities and yet the two may act completely different based on
what they think. A person that has a negative mindset can be oblivious to the
opportunities while someone who has cultivated an opportunity mindset will
seize upon those same opportunities. It gets down to their individual
awareness.
When you begin to see a situation as an opportunity your
awareness opens up and you see possibilities that you never knew were there.
Only when you are in this mindset can you begin to move from obstacles to
opportunities.
1) Think Positively
2) Read and Study Success stories
3) Model after successful people
Thinking positively can be much tougher than it sounds. For
those of us (and, I'm talking about the majority of people) that are not used
to directing our thoughts it can be a foreign concept to actually decide to
think positively. When I was first starting off in this career of success
development I wrote in a blog post that we should think positively to be able
to grow rich. This thought came from studying Napoleon Hills classic
"Think and Grow Rich." It wasn't long before an acquaintance
commented on the post that they are "thinking positively" now where's
the money?
Step 2 is to constantly keep your mind right by reading and
studying positive stories. If we aren't careful all that our minds will take in
are the negatives of life. We are inundated with one story after another of
failure, loss, and distress. All this does in reinforce the obstacles that lay
in our own paths. If we are to
The third step is simply to find a few key people who are
living the life you want to live and do what they do. Model yourself after
them. Why reinvent the wheel when others have gone before us. Modeling is most
effective when you have access to the person you are patterning after but it's
not necessary. Even if you do not have access or even know them well you can
still learn about them from other sources and do what they do. As you do this
you will begin to enjoy the success they enjoy.
Challenges and setbacks can and often do occur in life. The
trick is to turn these challenges around in our favor. Our obstacles truly can
become opportunities if we are willing to put forth the effort to see them
differently.
